Week 1 …

The prep for this research was plenty. From reading articles to trying to pronounce Coursera. The week in a glance consisted of the following. Supervised Machine learning and unsupervised machine learning. Imagine a world where a computer can learn. Looking for a way to make things manageable in under-served areas needs to be cost effective. Learning python. How to make an effective research presentation.

I took a crash course in Python to familiar myself with the language on Coursera. While I knew the basics this course was beneficial to my critical thinking. I found myself moving through this challenging course with small roadblocks in the quizzes. These quizzes made me think on how to use python as the tool and not as a solution to the problem. What I mean is that I had to think critically on the use of python to help with the solution.

I took recommendations on programming environments to use with the experiments portion of the research. I am using Anaconda as a package management system. This will help me set up an environment to use Tensorflow and Keras. It took some time to make the right choices but Tianyi Zhang made my choice easier by providing the tools I needed to do my research in Malaria classification.

Another thing I felt is that my cohort brings many life experiences. I found that I this will help my perspective in the upcoming research. While this is a prep week, I have realized that it takes so much work to get educated of the task that is coming ahead and how intimidating it is.
