Week 4

Yongyi Zhao, Graduate Student Presentation was a called Time of Flight Diffuse Optical Tomography.  In my humble opinion, this is the ultimate in wearable technology.  The goal is be able to apply a digital topical device that will be able to not only detect brain signals but communicate information to an external device.  This could have some serious health implications.

I have a personal connection to this project.  I was born with mild Cerebral Palsy.  In often wonder if such a device could exist to help people who are affected by it can gain, lose or better control muscle functionality.

One crazy thought, if option was possible, could you augment or suppress muscle strength.  I see a potential sci-fi movie in the works

Dr. Di Carlo presentation brought back memories of me working in the lab pi petting for hours and hours.  I do not miss that.  His research is very fascinating to me.

Accorinng to his webisite, “Micro and nanotechnologies designed to operate at micrometer length scales are uniquely suited to sense and manipulate single cells and single molecules. Concerning diagnostics, these approaches promise to lay the foundation for continuously monitoring health through minute quantities of biomarkers undiscernible by present-day technologies – a revolution that will lead to detecting and re-defining the concept of disease to be unique to each individual. In parallel, the ability to automate cellular and molecular evolution can accelerate the development of new therapies and biosensors. These advances will lay a foundation for sensing and treating disease at its earliest stages, increasing health span, and reducing healthcare costs.

While wrting this, I had a crazy thought, What if you could use the nanotechnology of Dr. DiCarlo with Yongyi Zhao’s tech.  If each well help a cell that could perform a function or trigger a response with other’s technology, that could really open some doors exponentially.

then  add this concept.  Being able to add a “super nano tech cell” to a wearable device which can help the brain.

Poster Prep

I have never made an academic poster.  I been to several talks and conference but never really made one by myself.  It was like a team effort with a specific task.  The SWITCH program has. really be insightful and supportive in  providing tools for success.  I can now see how when you are going though the stages of Machine Learning and see you results, presenting it an an effective manner does justice to all your hard work.

Here is a copy of my poster in it’s  DRAFT stage.  I am proud of being able to produce a heatmap on my own.  Mistakes are present.  I acknowledge this.  LOL
