This has been a life changing journey!! I walked in not knowing and can saw I gained more than I had when we started. I am humbled for the opportunity. At the end of every summer I try to learn something. This is a good thing for a life long learner such as myself. I will sad for the fact I wish I had this newly acquired knowledge to teach my prior year’s students. I learned some really cool stuff from people that I hold in the highest respect and admiration. I know my poster is not the greatest but I am glad that I was able to reproduce the some of the accuracies via the tutorial and have a foundational understanding of the RICE PATHS UP Program. I have to acknowledge all my fellow RET’s You guys are awesome!!
This week we learned about some of Tianyi’s work. It is very interesting. I totally respect her love and commitment to her research. She is a good mentor. Like my students, I had to remove my ego and hear what she was saying, then I was like oohhhhhh. She is so right!! Le me make her suggested changes. I have to admit. It is a lot better. So let me put this out there YOU ARE AWESOME I know I will be reading about you someday.
For my lesson plan, I wanted to focus a bit ont he mental health aspect of things. I lost my mother to cancer almost a year to the day. She was in hospice and I was able to move her in to my home and take care of her. As dealt with the pain and other issues, one thing she wanted to keep sharp was her mind. She raided me to believe that mind can do it all. So what I decided to work on was a way to play the memory game Simon. While its convenient to have this memory game of buttons and lights, I firmly believe that you some level of skills set mentally. So my partner Michael and I wanted to create an analog version of the game and try find a way for students to mimic variable and parameters of code through game play. The second phase would be uploading a version of the game to a device like a Raspberry Pi.
